How to Stream Spotify through Your AppleTV
I got a Spotify invite yesterday, and it's as good as advertised. Most any song I can think of. Streaming on my computer. For free. I'm particularly happy that I can play songs from my growin' up years that I'd love to hear once or twice but don't want to pay for through iTunes.
But I want to play music through my AppleTV and not just my computer speakers. I can sign up for a premium Spotify subscription and stream music from my iPhone to my AppleTV using Airplay. But I'd rather not pay $10 a month for that privilege.
With the help of the Googles, I found a solution: Airfoil by Rogue Amoeba.
Airfoil sends audio from a Mac or Windows PC to other devices on a network. So I can launch Spotify on my MacBook Pro, and Airfoil will send the Spotify audio to my AppleTV. If I want to send the Spotify audio to another computer on the network, I can do that too. Heck, I can even send the audio to multiple devices at the same time. I have two AppleTVs--one in the living room and one in the guest bedroom. They're both playing 'Yellow Ledbetter' by Pearl Jam as I type.
